Installing your own garage shelving doesn’t have to be a nightmare. And just because you don’t have too many handyman skills doesn’t mean you have to settle for flimsy products that won’t last long.
If you want quality shelves that will last a lifetime and are easy to install on your own then all you need to do is invest in the right kind of product. And that product is TopRax shelving.
In this guide, we are going to show you just how easy it is to build your own garage shelving and we share some great maintenance tips that will keep your shelves in perfect condition for a lifetime to come.
How to Assemble Toprax Garage Shelving
The TopRax metal garage shelves come in a variety of product types. With these, you can get them with a shelving depth of 500 mm or 600 mm. The shelves are all mostly 200 cm high but they can vary in width since TopRax has shelf lengths that vary from 150 – 300 cm in length. Typically, these racks are only sold with 4 shelves but you can also get additional loose shelves or add on shelves if you want to store smaller items.
Despite the differences in garage shelving size, they are all made from the same quality materials and the assembly is similar for all products.
Here is a quick look at the steps for assembling your own garage shelving all on your own.
Step 1 – Unboxing
This is one of the most exciting parts of the whole process. TopRax can be sold online or you can buy them onsite. They will arrive at your doorstep in a compact box size of about 2 x 0.6 x 0.1 meters. First, you will need to unbox your entire kit and sort the pieces according to type and size.
Step 2 – Frame Construction
These racks are so easy to install. You don’t need any tools for the assembly.
- To construct your shelves, you can first prop one upright against something so it will be in a standing position.
- Next, grab one of the I-beams and slide it into the base of your upright. Grab your other upright and slide the other end of the I-beam into its base. It should now stand upright on its own but can be a bit wobbly.
- Take the next I-beam and secure it into place at the bottom of the uprights on the opposite side. Your structure should be much firmer at this point.
- Grab another I-beam and click it into position at both uprights at the height you want your next shelf to be. Repeat this step for the opposite side (back) of the upright and for the upper shelves.
Step 3 – Insert Shelves
When all beams or supports are in place, you can start laying the add-on shelves on top of the I-beams. They should fit nice and snugly.
Step 4 – Secure the Shelves
Finally, you only need to secure all I-beams to the upright frame using the bolts included in the kit. This can be done by simply sliding the bolt into the holes of the I-beam where they correspond with the holes in the upright. Simply secure them at the back and you are all done.
How to Maintain Toprax Garage Shelving
These metal shelves have a structure that can handle up to 1600KG of weight (depending on the shelf length) and they are treated with a powder coat finish. The shelves are extremely sturdy and they are stain and rust-resistant. But to keep your shelves in good condition for even longer, you can do the following.
- Don’t let liquid spills like oil, petroleum, or other chemicals sit on the shelves for too long before cleaning as this can damage the powder coat finish.
- Don’t scrape heavy objects against the shelves since this can cause deep scrapes which may lead to rusting.
- Place heavy items at the bottom of the shelves.
- Don’t overload shelves with extremely heavy items like an engine block.
If you want to get your hands on shelves that will last a lifetime despite their easy assembly and maintenance then the best thing you can do is to buy from TopRax Australia. These shelves are a true winner in any garage setup.
